Mole mapping and skin cancer screening with FotoFinder

Consultant-led mole checks and full body mole mapping at Berkshire Grove Hospital, Maidenhead using FotoFinder AI-supported imaging to track your skin over time. For patients across Berkshire, Surrey, Sussex, London and Oxfordshire, whether you have noticed a change or simply want peace of mind.
Consultant-led care

Led by a Skin Cancer

Specialist You Can Trust.

Apex Skin Clinic was founded by Mr Kuen Yeow Chin, Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Skin Cancer Lead at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. He works closely with consultant dermatologists in both the NHS and private practice, and has extensive experience caring for patients diagnosed with melanoma and other skin cancers.

Your mole mapping appointment is carried out by our highly trained skin cancer nurse specialists under Mr Chin’s clinical supervision. If anything needs further assessment, a follow-up consultation with Mr Chin can be arranged promptly – giving you continuity of care and clear medical guidance.
A more thorough approach

More than a standard
mole check.

Mole mapping records your skin in detail, so that changes can be seen clearly over time. Using high-resolution digital imaging, we build a reliable baseline of your moles and pigmented lesions that future appointments can be compared against — rather than relying on memory or a one-off inspection.

Many clinics advertise mole checks but offer only a quick visual inspection. While helpful, this can miss subtle changes — particularly in people with many moles, or skin that has frequently been exposed to the sun. At Apex, we use the FotoFinder bodystudio ATBM system, combining high-resolution imaging with AI-supported analysis to help identify early warning signs of melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and other skin cancers.
Suitability

Is mole mapping right for you?

You may benefit if

You have existing moles across multiple parts of the body
You have fair skin, or skin that has frequently been exposed to the sun
You have a family history of skin cancer
You have previously been diagnosed with melanoma, basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma
You want a structured, accurate way to monitor your skin over time
You simply want long-term peace of mind

Arrange a check if you have noticed

A mole that looks or feels different
A skin lesion that has not healed
A mole on a part of the body you cannot easily see
A mole that has changed after time in the sun
You want a structured, accurate way to monitor your skin over time
A new or changing mole when you have a family history of skin cancer
Most moles are harmless, but some changes can be associated with the development of skin cancer, including melanoma. You do not need to work out for yourself whether a mole is worrying, our team will examine it carefully and explain what they see, clearly and calmly.
Your care, Step by Step.

A calm, clear path from first recovery.

Mole mapping is a structured skin cancer screening process. It uses digital imaging and AI-supported analysis to provide a comprehensive view of your skin and any existing moles.

01

Consultation

Your appointment begins with a discussion of your history and any concerns, and an examination of your skin.

02

Full body imaging with FotoFinder

We photograph all relevant areas of the body from standardised positions, building your baseline skin map.

03

Digital mapping and AI-supported comparison

The system maps your existing moles, logs their features, and flags any moles or lesions with characteristics that may warrant closer review.

04

Clinical review and plan

Our skin cancer nurse specialists examine any flagged lesions or unusual moles using dermoscopy. Where further assessment is needed, a follow-up consultation with Mr Chin is arranged promptly.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about mole mapping at Apex Medical

Mole mapping is a non-invasive, high-resolution digital imaging process that records the appearance and position of your moles. Using FotoFinder technology, we monitor changes over time, helping to detect early signs of skin cancer before they become obvious to the eye. It is particularly recommended for people with multiple or atypical moles, or a personal or family history of melanoma.

No. A standard mole check is a one-off visual examination of your skin. Digital mole mapping includes full body photography, dermoscopic imaging and structured surveillance over time — allowing new or changing moles to be identified at follow-up appointments.

At Apex Skin Clinic, a full body mole mapping appointment costs £380, with follow-up imaging at £304 and a two-person appointment at £680. Pricing is transparent, with no hidden consultation fees.

Mole mapping does not diagnose cancer, but it can identify suspicious moles that may require a biopsy or excision. It is an important tool in detecting melanoma and other skin cancers at an early stage, when treatment is most effective.

Yes. Mole mapping is safe, painless and radiation-free. It involves no injections or dyes, and is suitable for all skin types.

Most higher-risk individuals, such as those with many moles, a family history of skin cancer, or a previous melanoma, benefit from mole mapping every 6-12 months. Your clinical team will recommend a personalised surveillance plan based on your risk profile.

If a mole appears unusual or has changed between scans, our clinical team may recommend a biopsy or mole excision to confirm the diagnosis. Procedures are carried out by our consultant-led team at Berkshire Grove Hospital.

Some patients are able to claim mole mapping through private health insurance, but cover varies between insurers and policies, and screening appointments are often self-funded. We provide full documentation to support a claim. We recommend checking with your insurer before your appointment, and our team is happy to help with the paperwork.

We offer mole mapping in Berkshire, with patients also visiting from London and across the South East. Apex Skin Clinic is a specialist, consultant-led mole mapping clinic combining state-of-the-art imaging with expertise in dermatology and skin cancer care.
