Every Way We Check Your Skin

Skin cancer screening at Apex is not a single test, it is a set of diagnostic services matched to your level of risk and concern. Whether you need a rapid opinion on one changing mole or structured surveillance across hundreds, the pathway starts with the same thing: an expert looking properly.

Who Should Book

a Skin Cancer Screening?

Who Should Book if:

  • You have existing moles across multiple parts of the body
  • You have fair skin, or skin that has frequently been exposed to the sun
  • You have a family history of skin cancer
  • ou have previously been diagnosed with melanoma, basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma
  • You are immunosuppressed — through medication, transplant or an underlying condition
  • You want a structured, expert answer rather than uncertainty

Arrange a check if you have noticed:

  • You have existing moles across multiple parts of the body
  • You have fair skin, or skin that has frequently been exposed to the sun
  • You have a family history of skin cancer
  • ou have previously been diagnosed with melanoma, basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma
  • You are immunosuppressed — through medication, transplant or an underlying condition
  • You want a structured, expert answer rather than uncertainty
Most skin changes turn out to be harmless, but the difference between a wart and skin cancer, or a freckle and an early melanoma, is not something to judge from pictures online. Our team will examine it properly and tell you clearly, one way or the other.

How Your Skin Cancer
Screening Works.

A screening appointment is thorough but straightforward. Most assessments take under an hour, and you leave knowing exactly where you stand.
1
Consultation and history
We discuss your risk factors, sun exposure history, and any moles or changes that are concerning you.
2
Full body
examination
A systematic top-to-toe skin check by a clinician trained in dermoscopy, including easily missed sites such as the scalp, nails and soles of the feet.
3
Dermoscopy and imaging
Any mole or lesion of interest is assessed under high magnification. Where structured monitoring would help, digital mole mapping builds a baseline for future comparison.
4
Diagnosis and
planning
You receive clear findings on the day. Where a biopsy is needed to confirm a diagnosis, it is arranged promptly with our consultant team at Berkshire Grove Hospital.

Skin Cancers and Pre-Cancerous

Conditions We Diagnose

Anti-wrinkle injections treat more than facial lines. Browse the areas patients most often ask about, from expression lines to jaw tension and excess sweating.
1

Melanoma &
Antypical Moles

The most serious type of skin cancer. It often appears as a dark mole or patch that changes over time, becoming larger, irregular in shape, or itchy. It may also present as a sore that does not heal.
2

Basal Cell
Carcinoma (BCC)

The most common type of skin cancer in the UK. It often appears as a pearly bump, a red patch, or a scab that does not heal. Although it grows slowly, it can damage surrounding tissue if left untreated.
3

Squamous Cell
Carcinoma (SCC)

A common skin cancer that may spread if left untreated. It often appears as a thickened, crusted, or ulcerated patch, particularly on sun-exposed areas such as the face, scalp, and hands.
4

Bowen's Disease And
Actinic Keratosis

Bowen's disease and actinic keratoses are both considered precancerous conditions that can develop into squamous cell carcinoma if left untreated.
5

Keratoacanthoma

Keratoacanthomas are fast-growing, dome-shaped skin growths that can closely resemble squamous cell carcinoma. Due to their rapid development and similar appearance to skin cancer, they are often removed to confirm the diagnosis.
6

Chainging Moles &
Suspicious Lesions

Whether it’s a mole that has shifted in size, shape, or colour, or a new lump, bleeding patch, or persistent sore, early evaluation is key.
Where treatment is needed, it is planned by our consultant plastic surgeons and dermatologists, from surgical excision with cosmetic outcomes in mind, through to non-surgical options such as photodynamic therapy, cryotherapy and prescription topical treatments.

Who you'll see

Your screening is delivered by an experienced skin cancer nurse specialist and overseen by our consultant, Mr Kuen Yeow Chin, working within a regulated private hospital setting – with the full backing of a specialist team should you ever need it.

Scheduled skin checks

Follow-up reviews every 3–12 months depending on your diagnosis, consultant – or nurse-led – full body examinations, with particular focus on previously affected areas.

Mole mapping for high-risk patients

Digital mole mapping tracks change over time, and is particularly valuable after melanoma, or for patients with atypical or numerous moles.

Lymph node monitoring

If you have had a sentinel lymph node biopsy or lymph node clearance, we monitor for regional recurrence, including ultrasound or clinical review where indicated.
